WELLSPRING
A PARABLE OF AGONY AND ECSTASY
The world of Wellspring is one where natural resources vital to sustain human life have been depleted. It is a wordless and dark void where certain death looms. A starving farmer gazes upon his forgone crop before his last breath. He collapses into the Earth. Along his descent he discovers a magical substance which he then gathers to bring back to the desolate world above. But as he discovers the worth of his new acquisition, peril reveals itself in the darkness of the beholder…

The Executive, the Sponsor, the Anchor, the Producer, the Writer, the Intern, the Witness. How does the lens of news media shape the way we view our world? How does our vantage point determine fact from alternative fact? And how can a single flashpoint bring the world to its knees?
FIRE is an original, immersive production that explores the relationship of media to populism. As big money and big political influence dominate the production of “news,” the definition of truth is suddenly a debate. FIRE follows the trajectory of how a witnessed event is filtered through a number of influential players to finally arrive, at some form, in front of an avid audience.
FIRE is a thriller fit for our contemporary scrutiny of media and politics. Drawing from philosophers such as Foucault, Sartre, Plato, and media philosopher Marshall McLuhan, FIRE intricately examines the way we see ourselves in the world as it is “projected” to us by powerful figures involved in the production of news. As we witness the rise of polarizing politics and the exacerbation of media for entertainment and opinion, our ensemble of international artists bring dynamic and poignant perspectives to uncover how the understanding of “truth” is perhaps defined differently around the world.
